An International event involving
young Punjabans so as to help promote, honour and project the
daughters of Punjab, under the title of Dhee Punjaban
International 2009 Heritage Contest was organised by
international folk organisation – Punjab Cultural Promotion
Council at Maharani Jindan Auditorium, Khalsa College of
Education, Amritsar last evening, in which 41 Punjabans
participated and depicted the great folkloric traditions of
Punjab. Directed by PCPC Chairman, Davinder Singh Chhina, the
event involved various Punjabi folk styles, predicted village
folk life of Punjab, exotic Gidha performances, Punjabi couplets
(Boliyan). This international event was a blend of beauty and
heritage of Punjab, in which, 41 Punjabi girls attired in
traditional folk costumes, decorated with traditional folk
ornaments showing the glimpses of Punjabi heritage, attracted
the attention of packed auditorium.
Amritsar girl, the BDS second
year student from Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Amritsar,
Prabhjot Kaur Dilawari won the title of Dhee Punjaban
International 2009, Mandeep Kaur, student of Guru Gobind Singh
Khalsa College, Sarhali (Taran Taran), bagged the first
runner-up position whereas Mandeep Kaur Grewal, student of Swami
Gangagiri Janta Girls College, Raikot, emerged as second
runner-up during this spectacular Dhee Punjaban Event. The
first three winners were awarded with Sone Di Saggi, Sone Diyan
Pippal Pattiyan and Chandi Diyan Jhanjran respectively by the
international event organisers, Principal Dr. Jaswinder Singh
Dhillon, eminent personality, Mr. Rajindermohan Singh Chhina,
PCPC Director, Davinder Singh Chhina, Dr. Kirat Sandhu
(Springdale Education Society), and Principal Dr. Kuldeep Kaur
Dhaliwal.
Prominent Punjabi folk singer
Dolly Guleria, theatre personality Neeta Mahendra (Amritsar),
Dr. Sarbjeet Kaur Sohal (state-awardee) Mohali, Prof. Rupinder
Kaur (BBKDAV College, Amritsar), International folk artist and
Gidha Coach, Vimpi Parmar (Patiala), Arjuna-awardee Prof. Suman
Sharma, Dr. Sarabjot Kaur (Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana)
were awarded with Dhee Punjaban awards 2009 by Punjab Cultural
Promotion Council for their outstanding works in the field of
education, art, culture, sports and Sikhism. Dolly Guleria and
other educationists were the judges for this event.
Out of the participants some
others also won the titles of Tor Punjaban Di, Suchaji Mutiyar,
Gidhe Di Melan, Akarshak personality, Akarshak Pehrawa, Dilkash
Muskurahat, Lambi Gutt award, Bilori Akhaan award, Koyal wargi
awaaz, Saru Warga Kadh, Gagar Wargi Punjaban, Surahidaar Gardan
Wali Punjaban, Tikhe Talwar Nak Wali Punjaban, Dhamak Punjaban
Di, Punjaban Jatt, Pratibawan Punjaban, Sandli Wargi Punjaban
and Gidhe Di Murailan award etc. Punjabi folk awards were given
to International Bhangra stars Manjot Singh Mani (Australia) and
Diljot Singh Honey (Australia), International folk artist
Gagandeep Kaur Lehra, Ms. Renu Jyoti, International Basketball
player Ms. Renu Diwan, Gidha artist Manpreet Kaur Malhi, Dr.
Indra Virk, Gidha coach Baljit Kaur Gill, Gidha coach Mrs.
Rajwinder Kaur (Sirsa), Prof. Rajwinder Kaur Ravi and others.

Brahmpura, Mr. Gurcharan Singh Khakh (Canada), Mr. Avtarjit
Singh Dhanjal (UK), Dolly Guleria (folk singer), eminent
journalist Sukhwinder Singh Chohla were the Guests of Honour on
this occasion. This international program was very well
compeered by prominent anchors Mr. Arvinder Singh Bhatti (TV
announcer) and Ms. Baljit Kaur Johal (Punarjyot). The event was
dedicated to the sweet memory of prominent art and culture
personality Late Manveen Kaur Sandhu. The choreographic dance
items and Bhangra by children and students of Springdale Public
School, Gidha by Khalsa College of Education students and
Bhangra by Khalsa Collegiates was liked by one and all.
Speaking on this occasion the
event director, Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina said that more such
international Dhee Punjaban events would be organised in Sydney
and South Australia, Calgary and Surrey (Canada), Bergamo
(Italy), Hamilton (New Zealand) and California (USA) in the
future so that Dhee Punjabans living overseas could participate
and express their Punjabi talent in Dhee Punjaban International
events.
Mr. Gurcharan Singh Khakh
(Canada), other personalities and all participants were honoured
with trophies and certificates by Mr. Rajindermohan Singh Chhina
and Principal Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon.
The winner of Dhee Punjaban
International 2009, Prabhjot Kaur Dilawari express her gratitude
to the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council for promoting the Dhee
Punjaban concept and providing her an opportunity to excel. She
declared to promote this international event and concept on
heritage lines globally and act as brand-ambassador of Dhee
Punjaban International events.
