Colourful
Turbans dominate world festival in Poland

European audience in general and the Polish Community in
particular got fascinated by the colourful turbans and
exotic folk performances of the Punjab Folk Artists who had
participated in the recently concluded 'SWIAT POD KYCZERA' –
World festival at Legnica in Schenegen State of Europe – POLAND.
Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) led by Lecturer
Davinder Singh Chhina (Ludhiana) put up a Spectacular display of Punjab's
great folk traditions heritage of Punjab and
scintillating folk dances of Punjab and
contributed for United Nations 'Culture of Peace-Project', as
well as for international friendship.
The eleventh Miedzynarodony Festival Mniejszosci Narodowych
Etnicznch 'Pod Kyczera', The World famous international event
was organized by Lemko folk music and Dance group Kyczera, in
collaboration with Legnicki Centrum Kultury (LCK), Legnica,Poland under
the auspices of festival Director Mr. Jerzy Starzynski. Many
Ethnic Communities from around the world participated in this
International-event. The Festival posters and Polish (Polska)
newspapers of Poland,
highlighted the Punjab Group as 'Sikhowie' (The Sikh-Group),
with special mention to the colourful Sikh-Turbans'. Lemkowie
(Poland), Chorwaci (Serbia), Gagauzi (Moldova), Meksyk-Veracruz
(Mexico), Polacy-czechy (Czech Republic), Rusini-Slowacja
(Slovakia) Serbowie (Austria), Bapas Sazy-Arna (Kazachstan) etc.
were the other ethnic groups which enthralled international
audience. PCPC folk group Director Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina
gave a message of love, peace, joy, goodwill, multiculturism and
humanity to all participating folk ensembles, from different
ethnic communities around the world.
Choreographer Charanjit Singh (Channi Sandhu), Mr. Navraj Singh
Chhina (Nankana Sahib Public
School), Mr. Jagwinderpal Singh Sandhu (D.A.V. College, Chandigarh),
Mr. Parminder Singh (Gopal Public
School, Issru, Khanna), Mr. Ropan Bajwa (Govt. Textile
Institute, Ludhiana)
and Mr. Tanvir Singh were the other members of the Punjab troupe
which visited Schenegen States i.e. Poland, Czech-Republic and
Austria. "Historic City Prague,
folk traditions of Legnica Country and Village folk life of Austria impressed
us most", disclosed Mr. Ropan Bajwa here today.
PCPC International folk Ensemble gave exhilarating and exotic
performances of Wroclaw, Rudna, Chocianow, Zamienice, Polkowice
and put up a memorable Concert during the closing ceremony at
Amphi-Theatre (amfiteatr w Parku Miejskim), Legnica's marvellous
park.
PCPC Director and ISCA's International member Davinder Singh
Chhina while talking to media here today said, "The Polish
audience is quite crazy about music, colourful turbans and folk
dance Bhangra, Malvai Gidha of Punjab and Many folk ensembles
and students of Poland are keen to visit and explore Punjab in
the near future."
Mr. Chhina disclosed that two Polish students from Legnica Ms
Ania and Ms Sandra, attired in Punjabi folk costumes, kept the
audience captivating with their Punjab folk
actions, alongwith Punjabi troupe, during the concert at Legnica.
Students of St. John Paul Secondary School Rudna (Poland) danced
with PCPC folk troupe and were much delighted to see Bhangra.
The school Director Mr. Grabowski desired to initiate
cooperation with schools in Punjab to
make educational exchanges and culture-sports exchanges with
Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).
Panstwowa Wyzsa Szkola Zawodowa (PWSW), University of Witelona, Legnica's
Director Mr. Stanislaw Dabrowski and PCPC Director Mr. Davinder
Singh Chhina, signed an agreement for exchange programs between
the University and PCPC in near future.
The President of Legnica County, Honoured Mr. Davinder Singh
Chhina with 'DYPLOM OF APPRECIATION' for latter's works for
International Cooperation. The Director for Ethnic-Groups in the Municipality of Legnica-Urzad
Miasta, Dr. Krystof K. Boluwender appreciated PCPC troupe's
vibrant performances.
PCPC Director Mr. Chhina has also extended invitations to Polska
folk ensembles and students to participate in Punjab
International festivals being organized by PCPC in coming
November 2008 & February, 2009.
Ms. Paulina Maciejewska, the PCPC coordinator for Poland chapter,
termed PCPC troupe's performances par-excellence and world
class. She hoped for better cooperation between Punjab and Legnica County,
in the form of exchange programs.
