California based Sikh leader and prominent Transporter Mr Surinder Singh Nijjar has asked the NRI community to  contribute for upliftement of school - education, extend charity works and accelerate culture-sports of Punjab.  "Punjab has tremendous tourism potential, thousands of foreigners are keen to visit the state, but the need of the hour, is to propagate the heritage places and folk-village life of Punjab, so as to attract these foreigners to the holy land", remarked Mr Nijjar, who was felicitated with Virasat-Award, by International folk ensemble Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) here this afternoon, for latter's services in the field of community development and culture-sports in Punjab and California. 

Mr Nijjar urged the state govt to introduce subjects of Gurmat Education, Human Rights Education, Moral Education in Punjab schools as subjects and utilise the tool of sports for the development of education, so as to save the younger generations from falling prey to drug-addiction. Mr Nijjar has already extended support to educational projects of Guru Nanak Mission trust - Dhahan kaleran, Guru Gobind Singh kabaddi cup Jalandhar, Kabaddi tournament  in Bajakhana, missionary works in his native village Bharsinghpura, near Phillaur and many such projects in Doaba region. He is closely associated with Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports club, Fresno, Gurudwara committee of Selma and Super Sports Club of Selma, California.  He owns  Almond and Grapes - farms in Madera California, popularly known as  Nijjar- Brothers Farms.  Mr Surinder Singh Nijjar and his brother Mr Amritpal Singh Nijjar also run a strong fleet of  trucks in 48 states of  USA under  the banner of  Nijjar Brothers Trucking Assoc. While appreciating the launch of EDUSAT programme by Edusat society of Punjab and Gyan Sewa Trust, Mr Nijjar  said"Edusat project would become a boon for  rural and poor students of Punjab, who aspire to become engineers and doctors and NRI's must contribute to such projects to bring educational revolution in Punjab state".

Punjab Cultural Promotion Council Director Mr Davinder Singh Chhina announced to appoint Mr Surinder Singh Nijjar, as  International-Coordinator of PCPC- chapter California to accelerate punjab-heritage activites and International educational ,culture-sports exchange-programs, worldwide.  He appreciated the role of Nijjar-Brothers and other NRI's in the development of the state and promotion of rural- sports in Punjab. Mr Nijjar also interacted with PCPC office-bearers and officials of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle to know about the youth problems and vowed to support PCPC and GGSSC,in their fight against social-evils and drug-addiction.  Prominet Sikh scholar Prof Balvinder Pal Singh, Principal Gurcharan Singh Brara {retired}, Dr Pushpinder singh, Mr Iqbal Singh also spoke on this occasion.  Those present included Mr Rajpal singh Raju, Mr Talwinder Singh, Dr  Raju singh Chhina, Mr Karanbir Singh Chhina, Mr Rajinder Singh Sohal, Er Narinderpal singh, Mr Bansi lal, Mr Ropan Singh Bajwa, Mr Charnjit singh Sandhu, Sufi Singer Mr Dev Dildar and others.
