Colourful Turbans, Traditional Punjabi
costumes, Punjabi Dhol and Music enthralled Polish audience,
Thousands of people of Baltic nations and International
spectators during four week schedule and world festivals tour by
students and folk artists of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).
“Exotic performances by young Punjabi
artists fascinated the International folk lovers and
international media, during seven major World Folk Festivals and
International events in Schenegen states of Europe Viz. Poland,
Lithuania and Latvia” says Lecturer Davinder Singh Chhina, The
Director of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council, during media
interaction. The fifteen members delegation including
International Drummer Mr. Bansi Lal Dholi, Folk Singer Mr.
Nitish, Mr. Karambir Singh Chhina, Choreographer Mr. Bikramjit
Singh Biki (Kapurthala), Ms Asees Chhina (Patiala, Mr. Navraj
Singh Chhina (Ludhiana), Mr Krishan Kumar, Mr. Shivam Sethi (Jalandhar),
Mr. Shagundeep Singh Thathi (Kapurthala), Ms Sandeep Kaur and Ms
Keetika (Amritsar), PCPC Patron Mr.R.S. Sohal (Mohali). Mr.
Karun Vir Sharma and Mr. Rahul Singh Sandhu (Chandigarh) have
returned back to Punjab with sweet memories from Europe.
The Punjab Delegation was Cynosure of all
eyes during International Folk Festival at Ciechanow, Plonsk,
Glinojeck, Serock, Grudusk and Golymin, Ojrjen, International
Concert in the concert Hall of Community Office of Wieliszew,
CIOFF-World Folk Festival at Olsztyn, Miedzynarodowego Lata’z
folklore –festival in the castle of Ostroda (Poland),
International Multi-cultural event at Recreation Centre of
Limbazi (Latvia), International performance during ‘Podlaska-
Szyszke’ at Siemiatycze & GIM- Lakeside (Poland), International
performances at Siauliai, Kursenai and Meskuiciai during 3rd International
Folk Contest Festival “The Flower of the Sun” at Lithuania and
also participation in World Folk Festival – Cross Drumming, in
Warszawa (Poland).
PCPC Folk Signer Mr. Nitish bagged 1st position
in World Folk Contest at Siauliai Lithuania, bringing laurels to
the state of Punjab by singing traditional Punjabi songs and
completing with European and Korean Folk singers.

Miecjewska and Katvari Folk group artists from Limbazi (Latvia)
- Ms Beate and Ms Madera, donned Punjabi costumes and performed
Bhangra with Punjabi artists, during World festivals at Olsztyn
(Poland) and Limbazi (Latvia) respectively.
International folk artists from Poland,
Lithuania, Greece, Georgia, Turkey, Balarus, Romania, France,
Bulgaria, Slovenia, South Korea etc. also participated in these
world festivals. “PCPC Folk artists performed Bhangra, Gidha,
Jhoomer, Malvai Gidha, Boliyan, Dhamaals etc. and displayed
traditional Punjabi folk instruments, much to the delight of
international audience” disclosed PCPC organizers Mr. Karanbir
Singh Chhina and Mr. R.S. Sohal.
PCPC Director Davinder Singh Chhina
addressed more than dozen International meetings and Mayor
meetings at Lithuania, Latvia and Poland and highlighted the
great traditions of Punjab, Sikh-identity and Sikh heritage,
also expressing solidarity for UN- Project of ‘Culture of
Peace’.
Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, who is also an
International Member of ISCA (Denmark),
told media that Punjab’s troupe also contributed for
Humanitarian cause during the trip’ by performing for Sick
Children in a Hospital at Olsztyn and Old-age people at
Kombatant, Ciechanow, at Poland.
Davinder Singh Chhina also held International Exchange Program
Meetings with Mr. Stansilaw Kesik, Dyrektor-Centrum Kultury
Sztuki, Ciechanow, Dr Darec, Director of Culture, Wieliszew
Commune and director of Folk Group – Promyki, Mr Mikolajewska,
Director Culutre, Plonsk, Mr Artur Chwala, Director of Folk
group- Warmia, Olsztyn, Mr. Jan Grabiec, Starosta Legionowski,
Ms Barbara, Mr Pawel and Mrs Anna Pruszkowska, Organizers of
Cross-Drumming festival, Warszawa, Mr. Andrjej Szczodrowski, Dy
Mayor of Wieliszew, Mrs Taisa Aruma, Art Director of folk group-Katvari
(Latvia), Mr.Zigmas Ripinskis and Mr Darius Daknys, Organizers
of ‘The flower of Sun’ – Saules Ziedas, the world festival.
PCPC Director Mr. Chhina was honoured by
Mr. Waldemar Knownacki, Mayor of Wieliszew, Mrs Ewa Gladysz,
President of Ciechanow, Mr. Piotr Grzymowicz, President
of Olsztyn (Poland), Mr Didzis Zemnners, Chairman of City
Council of Limbazi (Latvia), Mr. Raimondas, Director of Culutral
Centre, Siauliu Rajono, Kursenai (Lithuania) and Mr. Ginadijans
Miksio, the Mayor of Siauliai (Lithuania) and
Mr. Nikolai Lupsan, Mayor of Lesu City of Romania, for latter’s
International works for International Cooperation and Multi-culturism. Mayor
of Lesu participated in International Festival at Lithuania with
his folk group from Romania.
PCPC Delegation is all praise for
polish-hospitality, city tour to Warszawa’s Palace of Culture,
Zamek Krolewski- The Royal Castle, Old Town, Ship cruise on
Zegrgynskie Lake in Wieliszew, Sightseeing of Jacharanka, Castle
of Olszthyn, Traditional folk museum on Polska Culture at
Gietrzwaldzie, Castle and Lake of Ostroda (Poland), Muzeum
Mazowieckie w
Plocku (Poland), adventure, Sightseeing and riches of nature at
Limbazi (Latvia), Lithuanian folklore, Lakes of Poland,
Lithuania and Latvia, Lithuania. Flora and Fauna at Baltics and
Poland also created deep impressions on the Punjabi delegation.
PCPC Director also exchanged souvenirs with Mayors and
Presidents of various cities in these there countries. He
presented photos of the Golden Temple, Amritsar and the Punjabi
relics to the Mayors and also extended invitations to students
and folk groups from more than twenty participating nations.
