DR. CHHINA HONOURED WITH "GLOBAL PROMOTER OF PUNJAB HERITAGE AWARD"

Amritsar ( ) Legendary Singer Mohmd. Rafi was remembered by Mohmd. Rafi Memorial Society on his 31st Death Anniversary by organizing a glittering ' Rafi Awards -Ceremony' and an evening of folk music, Punjabi songs and world famous songs of late Rafi, paying rich tributes to the latter.

Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina, Director of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) was honored with 'Global Promoter of Punjab Heritage Award- 2011" dedicated to memory of late Rana Jaspal Singh Amritsar ( the prominent photo Journalist) ,who has founded the prestigious Mohmd Rafi Memorial Society. Dr Chhina appealed to the Punjab folk singers to stick to the pure Punjabi folk forms, and avoid distorting the great heritage of Punjabis, by singing vulgar- songs, Unethical- songs and songs related to liquor, violence and "Ashiqi". "Collective efforts by all Punjabi are required to preserve the great and world famous Punjabi- heritage. PCPC in collaboration with Rafi Society, would like to organize International folk festivals, in coming years in the memory of legendary Punjabis viz: Bhai Veer Singh, Mohmd. Rafi, Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, Shaheed Udham Singh & others by inviting international folk delegations, from abroad" Dr Chhina announced,while talking to the TRIBUNE.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Inderbir Singh Bularia honored dozen eminent personalities with 'Rafi Awards' for their excellence in the field of Punjabi folk music, heritage, films and playback singing included Mr. Kumar lyricist (Bombay), Mr. Tejwant Kittu (Music Director), Mr. Jelly (Punjabi Singer), Mr. Sukhwinder Sukhi (Punjabi Folk Singer), Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina (Global Promoter of Punjab heritage), Mr. Gurchet Chitarkar (Comedian), Mr. Brijesh Ahuja (Play back singer), Mr. Bhushan Madaan (Punjabi Film), Mr. Harinder Gill (Punjabi Film Director), Ms. Jaspinder Cheema (Film Actress), Ms. Jessi Kaur Chandigarh (Anchor), Ms Parmjit Kaur (Winner- Voice of Punjab).

Mr. Brijesh Ahuja and Mr. Tarlochan Singh enthralled the audience at Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium by Singing famous songs of Mohmd. Raif, i.e., 'Aap Aye Bahar Aye', ' Pathar Ke Sanam' etc. Punjabi folk Singer Mr. Jelly became the heart throb of the spectators and his song 'Tainu Appe Bari Kra Loon, Londono Vakil Karke', singer Sukhi's song Pagg dian poonian' was also liked by one and all. Lyricist and singer Gurvinder Maan also performed on this occasion.

Actor and Anchor Mr. Arvinder Singh Bhatti along with Anchor Ms Jessy Kaur compared the event. Mr. Raj Kumar, Deputy Chairman of SC/ ST Commissioner, Govt. of India, presided over the Samaroh. Rafi Memorial Society President Mr. Tarlochan Singh, Patron Mr. Nirmal Singh Dhir (Photo Journalist), Gen. Secy. Mr. Daljeet Singh Arora, Akali Leader Mr. Upkar Singh Sandhu and Mr Simranjit asingh minky ,thanked all the dignitaries.
