Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC)
is an internationally acclaimed folk
ensemble engaged in the promotion of rich cultural heritage of
Punjab and folkloric traditions of Punjab through world-wide
networking for the last decade.
PCPC, under the chairmanship of Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina,
represents folk songs, folk music and folk dances and folkloric
traditions from Punjab
region. PCPC folk artists' traditional folk dresses, folk
instruments and colourful turbans have always attracted and impressed
the international audience in international folk festivals in
nations around the world.
PCPC is credited with participation in 80 world folk festivals and
many international programs and conferences in various parts of
Europe, South Korea, Australia and other continents.
WORLD FOLK COMPETITIONS: PCPC folk group has participated in three
world folk competitions in Siauliai, Lithuania (2009), Olsztyn,
Poland (2009), and Bursa, Turkey (2007).
PCPC has participated in 'CIOFF International Folk Festivals' and
many festivals recognised by UNESCO. PCPC has been actively
contributing to UNESCO's Culture of Peace Project so as to express
solidarity with the folk groups from many countries and many
communities during international programs world-wide. The
council has been recognised as 'Global Alliance Partner' of UNESCO
for cultural diversity in 2005. It is also an active member of
international organisation - ISCA (International Sports and Cultural
Association), Copenhagen, Denmark.
PCPC has taken initiative in organising Punjab International Folk
Festivals in Punjab, India for the last 6 years, so as to promote
the multiculturalism of Punjab globally. Under the
international, educational, cultural and sports exchange programs,
PCPC has already invited many folk groups and sports organisations
from Denmark, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Greece, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria,
Germany, Mongolia, Austria, USA, Scotland, Colombia and Belgium to Punjab
since 2003.
PCPC is also credited with promoting Sikh Martial Arts (Gatka) and
colourful Sikh Turbans in many world festivals across the seas.
Gatka has been incorporated in PCPC's international programming
during world folk festivals since 2007. Gatka is one of the
best folk art forms of the world and represents the culture-sports
of the Sikh community.
With the kind cooperation of its overseas director, Mr. Nirmal Singh Sydney, PCPC
got opportunities to represent and highlight the folk traditions of
Punjab in National Multicultural Festival, Canberra, Australia
continually since 2005.
PCPC is dedicated to the cause of humanity and for the welfare of
poor and homeless children around the world.
Committed to serve the humanity, PCPC contributed approximately AUSD
$5000 in aid of Tsunami victims by organising an International
Festival in Sydney in Feb 2005 in collaboration with Overseas
Director and President Australia Chapter, Mr. Nirmal Singh Sydney,
and PCPC Australia folk artists.
PCPC has already hosted world famous National Danish performance
Team (NDPT) from Denmark in Feb 2006 and internationally renowned
Flag Waivers 'Gelmelzwaaiers' from Hoogstraten, Belgium, in Nov 2008
during Punjab International Festivals.
Keeping up the great historic traditions of Khalsa College,
Amritsar, alive, PCPC Chairman cum Director, Mr. Davinder Singh
Chhina, has been working relentlessly for the last many years in
inviting international delegations from abroad to Khalsa College
campus and organise their performances in collaboration with Khalsa
College Managing Committee.
PCPC has tied up with many schools and universities abroad for
accelerating exchange programs across borders.
PCPC took an initiative in organising 'Dhee Punjaban International
Heritage Contest' in February 2009, and would continue in doing so
every year, in which, the daughters of Punjab from any part of the
world would be able to participate. The winners of this
international event would be given an opportunity to represent the
culture of Punjab in world festivals in Europe and elsewhere.
The primary goal of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council is to work for
strengthening friendship between nations and to promote
international understanding particularly in the field of folk art
and folk culture.

PCPC CELEBRATES ITS 10TH
BIRTHDAY !

Commemorating the ten successful years of inception of Punjab
Cultural Promotion Council, the council organised Punjab
Multicultural Festival 2009 at Ramgarhia College Auditorium in
Ludhiana City of Punjab, India. German folk artists and
students from Jade and Nordenham towns of Germany performed world
class entertainments shows and dances.
More than seventy-five world folk festival participations, two world
folk competitions, more than five hundred performances in 18
countries of the world, and representation to hundreds of students
and folk artists in various international festivals have made Punjab
Cultural Promotion Council one of the leading international
organisations in the world folkloric circuit.

COLOURFUL TURBANS MESMERIZE UKRAINIANS.

Revealing the rich inner world of Punjabis and Punjabi heritage,
embodied in the Punjabi folk songs, dances and traditional costumes,
the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) folk group rendered the
best features and traditions of Punjabis in General and Sikhs in
particular, during the four international folk festivals in Ukraine.

EXOTIC PUNJABIS SHINE & FASCINATE POLISH AND
BALTIC AUDIENCE.

Colourful Turbans, Traditional Punjabi Costumes, Punjabi Dhol and
Music enthralled Polish audience, thousands of people of Baltic
Nations and international spectators during a four week schedule and
world festivals tour by students and folk artists of Punjab Cultural
Promotion Council (PCPC).
PCPC folk singer Mr. Nitish bagged 1st position in World Folk
Contest at Siauliai, Lithuania, bringing laurels to the state of
Punjab by singing traditional Punjabi songs and competing with
European and Korean folk singers.

Californian based Sikh leader and prominent
transporter, Mr. Surinder Singh Nijjar, was felicitated with Virasat-Award
by Punjab Cultural Promotion Council in Ludhiana, Punjab. Mr.
Nijjar has asked the NRI Community to contribute to school
education, extend charity works and accelerate culture and sports of
Punjab internationally. Punjab Cultural Promotion Council
Director, Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, announced to appoint Mr. Nijjar
as International Coordinator of PCPC - Chapter California.
