ABOUT US
Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC)
is an internationally acclaimed folk ensemble engaged in the
promotion of rich cultural heritage of Punjab and folkloric
traditions of Punjab through world-wide networking for the last
decade. PCPC is credited with participation in 60 world folk
festivals and many international programs and conferences in various
parts of Europe, South Korea, Australia and other continents.
PCPC, under the chairmanship of Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, has taken
initiative in organising Punjab International Folk Festivals in
Punjab, India for the last 6 years, so as to promote the
multiculturalism of Punjab globally. Under the international,
educational, cultural and sports exchange programs, PCPC has already
invited many folk groups and sports organisations from Slovakia,
Czech Republic, Greece, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Scotland,
Colombia and Belgium to Punjab in the last couple of years.
PCPC is also credited with promoting Sikh Martial Arts (Gatka) and
colourful Sikh Turbans in many world festivals across the seas. It
has been recognised as Global Alliance Partner of UNESCO for
cultural diversity in 2005. It is also an active member of
international organisation - ISCA (International Sport and Culture
Association), Copenhagen, Denmark.
With the kind cooperation of its overseas director, Mr. Nirmal Singh
Sydney, PCPC got opportunities to represent and highlight the folk
traditions of Punjab in National Multicultural Festival, Canberra,
Australia with effect from 2005 till date.
PCPC has already hosted world famous National Danish Performance
Team (NDPT) from Denmark in Feb 2006 and internationally renowned
Flag Waivers - Gelmelzwaaiers from Hoogstraten, Belgium, in Nov 2008
during Punjab International festivals.
Keeping up great historic traditions of Khalsa College, Amirtsar,
alive, PCPC Chairman cum Director, Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, has
been working relentlessly for the last many years in inviting
international delegations from abroad to Khalsa College campus and
organise their performances by starting Khalsa College International
Folk Festival, Amritsar International Folk Festival and Amritsar
Multicultural Festival in collaboration with Khalsa College managing
committee.
Committed to serve the humanity, PCPC contributed approximately AUSD
$5000 in aid of Tsunami victims by organising International Festival
in Sydney in Feb 2005. The charity was sent to UNICEF.
PCPC is a major contributor for 'Culture of Peace' project UNESCO as
it always expresses solidarity with the folk groups from many
countries and many communities during international programs
world-wide.
PCPC has tied up with many schools and universities abroad for
accelerating exchange programs across borders.
PCPC took initiative in organising 'Dhee Punjaban International'
heritage contest in February 2009, in which, the daughters of Punjab
from any part of the world were be able to participate. The winners
of this international event would be given an opportunity to
represent the culture of Punjab in world folk festivals in Europe
and elsewhere in coming times. PCPC also proposes to start 'Singh is
King International' contest, in which, 'sabat-surat' Sikh youth
would participate from all over the world. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur Dhaliwal,
the Principal of Dalla College, and Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon,
Principal Khalsa College of Education Amritsar, are the
international coordinators for Dhee Punjaban contest and Singh is
King contest respectively.
