ABOUT US

Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) is an internationally acclaimed folk ensemble engaged in the promotion of rich cultural heritage of Punjab and folkloric traditions of Punjab through world-wide networking for the last decade. PCPC is credited with participation in 60 world folk festivals and many international programs and conferences in various parts of Europe, South Korea, Australia and other continents.

PCPC, under the chairmanship of Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, has taken initiative in organising Punjab International Folk Festivals in Punjab, India for the last 6 years, so as to promote the multiculturalism of Punjab globally. Under the international, educational, cultural and sports exchange programs, PCPC has already invited many folk groups and sports organisations from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Greece, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Scotland, Colombia and Belgium to Punjab in the last couple of years.

PCPC is also credited with promoting Sikh Martial Arts (Gatka) and colourful Sikh Turbans in many world festivals across the seas. It has been recognised as Global Alliance Partner of UNESCO for cultural diversity in 2005. It is also an active member of international organisation - ISCA (International Sport and Culture Association), Copenhagen, Denmark.

With the kind cooperation of its overseas director, Mr. Nirmal Singh Sydney, PCPC got opportunities to represent and highlight the folk traditions of Punjab in National Multicultural Festival, Canberra, Australia with effect from 2005 till date.

PCPC has already hosted world famous National Danish Performance Team (NDPT) from Denmark in Feb 2006 and internationally renowned Flag Waivers - Gelmelzwaaiers from Hoogstraten, Belgium, in Nov 2008 during Punjab International festivals.

Keeping up great historic traditions of Khalsa College, Amirtsar, alive, PCPC Chairman cum Director, Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, has been working relentlessly for the last many years in inviting international delegations from abroad to Khalsa College campus and organise their performances by starting Khalsa College International Folk Festival, Amritsar International Folk Festival and Amritsar Multicultural Festival in collaboration with Khalsa College managing committee.

Committed to serve the humanity, PCPC contributed approximately AUSD $5000 in aid of Tsunami victims by organising International Festival in Sydney in Feb 2005. The charity was sent to UNICEF.

PCPC is a major contributor for 'Culture of Peace' project UNESCO as it always expresses solidarity with the folk groups from many countries and many communities during international programs world-wide.

PCPC has tied up with many schools and universities abroad for accelerating exchange programs across borders.

PCPC took initiative in organising 'Dhee Punjaban International' heritage contest in February 2009, in which, the daughters of Punjab from any part of the world were be able to participate. The winners of this international event would be given an opportunity to represent the culture of Punjab in world folk festivals in Europe and elsewhere in coming times. PCPC also proposes to start 'Singh is King International' contest, in which, 'sabat-surat' Sikh youth would participate from all over the world. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur Dhaliwal, the Principal of Dalla College, and Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Principal Khalsa College of Education Amritsar, are the international coordinators for Dhee Punjaban contest and Singh is King contest respectively.

EXOTIC PUNJABIS SHINE FASCINATE POLISH AND BALTIC AUDIENCE.

Colourful Turbans, Traditional Punjabi Costumes, Punjabi Dhol and Music enthralled Polish audience, thousands of people of Baltic Nations and international spectators during a four week schedule and world festivals tour by students and folk artists of Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).

PCPC folk singer Mr. Nitish bagged 1st position in World Folk Contest at Siauliai, Lithuania, bringing laurels to the state of Punjab by singing traditional Punjabi songs and competing with European and Korean folk singers.

Californian based Sikh leader and prominent transporter, Mr. Surinder Singh Nijjar, was felicitated with Virasat-Award by Punjab Cultural Promotion Council in Ludhiana, Punjab.  Mr. Nijjar has asked the NRI Community to contribute to school education, extend charity works and accelerate culture and sports of Punjab internationally.  Punjab Cultural Promotion Council Director, Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, announced to appoint Mr. Nijjar as International Coordinator of PCPC - Chapter California. read more

Led by New Zealand senior minister for internal fairs, Dr. Richard worth, a six member Kiwi delegation visited Punjab.  The delegation, in a meeting with PCPC director Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, signed an MoU with the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council to promote cultural tie-ups.  The Indian Trade Group accompanying the delegation said that it will promote hockey in both countries in collaboration with PCPC. read more
