Twenty member cultural troupe of
Punjab was the cynosure of all eyes during the ongoing
Kurukshetra Utsav at Haryana’s historic city Kurukshetra
sponsored by N.S.C.C., the folk artists of Punjab Cultural
Promotion Council enthralled Haryanivis with the heritage dances
from Punjab.
Led by ISCA’s
International member Mr. Davinder Singh Chhina, the Punjabi
troupe produced foot-tapping folk dances thrilling dance
sequences with the fine combination of rocking Punjabi music,
during this festival of national repute. Kurukshetra-Utsav is
one of the most popular National festivals of the country.
Ludhiana based
international folk artists Mr. Rajpal Singh Raju and Mr.
Charanjit Singh Channny alongwith Bhangra stars Mr. Bablu, Mr.
Monu, Mr. Prem Singh, Mr. Harman Preet Singh Bunty, Mr. Daljit
Singh Lassara (International Aritst), Ms. Gurmeet Kaur Khushi
Langomahal (International Gidha Artiste), Folk Singer Mr. Ranjit
Singh Rana, Mr. Sunny (Drummer), Mr. Jassy (Algoza master) were
part of the Punjab contingent.
PCPC’s International
Bhangra star from Australia Mr. Manjot Singh Mani (Sydney) also
got an opportunity to represent Punjab’s Bhangra at this Utsav.
He is currently visiting his home district, Ludhiana. Female
Artists Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, Ms. Manprit Kaur, Ms. Neeru and Ms.
Ranju, students of College of Education at Derabassi also
represented Punjab at this festival.
PCPC Artists provided
great Punjabi folk flavour to the audience. Folk singers Ranjit
S. Rana and Channy Sandhu excelled with Boliyan, and kept the
audience spell bound.
N.S.C.C. (Patiala)
under the aeigis of its Director Mr. R.T. Jindal, IAS, organized
folk dances and folk troupes from Rajasthan, U.P., Assam,
Haryana, J&K and other states.
Malvai Gidha, Bhangra,
Jindua, Boliyan, Gidha and Jhoomer by Punjabi troupe compelled
Haryanvis to dance on this occasion.
PCPC Director,
Davinder Singh Chhina said that PCPC had been working in close
liason with International organizations viz. ISCA, International
Dance Counseil – UNESCO, FOLKWORLD, World Folklore Groups, DGI –
International, PCPC – Australia, various Embassies & High
Commissions to promote Punjab Heritage internationally.
