SIKH TURBANS SHINE IN FRANCE
PCPC Artists promoted Sikh turbans amongst
International audience and world folk artists from 11 countries during World
Folk Festival in Montrejeau, France.
47th Festival Mondial De Folklore at
Montrejeau was organised by CIOFF-Unesco, COFIF-Montrejeau and Regional
Council-Midi Pyreeenes. Nine Folk artists and students from Punjab
participated in this festival. They performed Bhangra, Malvai Gidha
and Trinjan scenes. Turbaned youths attired in colourful 'Turle Walian
Paggan' were seen for the first time in this world festival, attracting the
attention of French media and spectators present there.
French audience responded very well and showed
great respect to Sikh Turbans. The French government must now realise
that Sikhs are part of the world's mainstream and they should be recognised
as 'front-runners' in world peace and humanitarian works.
PCPC folk group contributed for the United
Nations culture of peace project at the festival through folk presentations
depicting great Punjabi culture and great Sikh heritage.
PCPC director and team manager, Mr. Davinder
Singh Chhina, also presented the photo of The Golden Temple to Mr. Robert
Pons, the general-mayor of Montrejeau. Mr. Chhina also explained about
Sikhism, the dignity of Sikh Turbans, the Sikh way of life and the role of
Sikhs in French Independence. Mr. Robert Pons honoured Mr. Chhina with
'Diploma-de-honouree' for his role and works for world peace and
International cooperation.
